Sundown Terrace

pergolas, fire features, xeriscaping, hardscape installation, retaining walls, lighting design
GO Designs boldly grounds this Franklin foothills terrace in a quilt of chihuahuan gravel and broad, saw-cut concrete pads that seem to hover above the earth. Twin steel pergolas, shaded by corrugated panels, cast linear shadows that stretch toward the purple Franklins while a sleek ribbon fire basin flickers beneath tidy Italian cypress. Breezes carry the faint scent of creosote as agave parryi and barrel cactus gather in artisanal clay jars, their forms lit from below by low-voltage LEDs. The stone retaining wall, hand-stacked from regional cantera, doubles as a windbreak and frames long views across the Rio Grande valley—an essential move in El Paso landscaping where elevation and exposure govern comfort. Gravel-set joints absorb monsoon runoff, directing water to a concealed French drain and safeguarding the home’s stucco façade. A subtle grade shift allowed the team to tuck a planting trench along the iron railing; drip emitters feed sotol and desert spoon without overflowing the narrow bed. Chairs in weather-white resin invite conversation around radiant heat, and textured rugs temper the cool concrete underfoot. After dark the scene becomes an intimate stage: ember glow, soft uplighting, and the distant hush of city lights. Behind the scenes, a smart controller synchronizes lighting and fire features with seasonal timers, reducing manual upkeep. Powder-coated steel resists the region’s abrasive dust storms, and the pergola’s sloped roof sheds rare snowfall. Every design call balances durability with polish, proving that desert modern design can feel both refined and rugged. In the end GO Designs delivers a twilight haven that celebrates mountain silhouettes, native texture, and year-round usability while standing as a showcase for the forward-thinking craftsmanship that distinguishes the firm in the Southwest market.

Acequia Crossing

masonry, lighting design, hardscape installation, horticulture, irrigation, grading
GO Designs transformed a broad, formerly blank frontage into a graceful arrival sequence that honors regional hydrology and East-Coast references alike. A brick promenade, edged in soldier-course masonry, bridges a subtle acequia carved through caliche soil, guiding vehicles and guests toward carriage-door garages and the columned porch. Fresh sod rolls unfurl cool green tone across sculpted berms while low-voltage uplights wash creamy lap siding in warm amber glow. Clusters of juvenile pine and glossy pittosporum trace the drive’s gentle curve, their needles whispering against afternoon thermals. Young ornamental grasses sway, offering a soft rustle that contrasts with the crisp click of footsteps on broom-finished concrete ribbons. Subtle turf undulations absorb the bounce of basketballs and muffle children's laughter, turning the forecourt into a multi-use commons. A sturdy field-stone wall anchors the north margin and houses a discreet irrigation manifold that rations water through high-efficiency emitters—an El Paso landscaping imperative. Precise grading sheds monsoon runoff away from foundations without sacrificing the lawn’s playable expanse; a cedar playset now stands over mulched footing, safely tucked beneath mature canopy. Even after dusk the landscape performs: tree-mounted downlights dapple the garden with mesquite-like shadows, and brass path lights mark each junction in the hardscape installation. The system links to a smart controller for hands-off seasonal adjustments. Pared-back planting design balances colonial symmetry with desert modern design discipline, delivering year-round structure minus heavy maintenance. In weaving masonry craft, lighting design, and water-wise horticulture into one cohesive canvas, GO Designs reinforces its reputation for elevating heritage architecture while respecting the demanding rhythms of the Chihuahuan borderland.

Heritage Grove Arrival

masonry, lighting design, hardscape installation, irrigation, horticulture
GO Designs created a grand welcome at this established El Paso residence by orchestrating a refined sequence of texture, light, and botanical rhythm. From the street, custom masonry columns frame a generous entry drive paved in multihued concrete pavers. Low limestone walls guide the eye and traffic, lit by an array of recessed LEDs and custom lanterns that cast a warm, inviting glow after dusk. The design team worked around a sprawling, mature shade tree—likely a pecan or mesquite—retaining it as the spiritual anchor of the space while integrating it with the surrounding hardscape. Beneath the canopy, the tactile contrast of brick herringbone pathways and crushed chihuahuan gravel fosters a sense of tactile richness. Border plantings feature native shrubs and drought-tolerant selections such as crepe myrtle, boxwood, and red yucca, giving the entry perennial structure with seasonal color bursts. A precisely tuned irrigation system ensures each plant thrives with minimal water waste, furthering the project’s sustainable ethos. Spot uplighting reveals the canopy’s complex branch structure, creating dynamic shadows that animate the façade and enhance nighttime curb appeal. Flanking the main walkway, cantera-topped pilasters lend a classic Southwestern silhouette, softened by the scent of freshly mulched beds and the soft rustle of ornamental grasses. GO Designs’ thoughtful layering of natural materials and regional references transforms this driveway into a true arrival moment—an experience as much as a space. This project exemplifies the firm’s mastery of desert modern design, where beauty and functionality meet in every line, light, and planting choice. GO Designs proves once again that first impressions deserve as much artistry as any courtyard or garden retreat.
